چکیده

Introduction: Black widow spider bites cause severe poisoning (latrodectism) with symptoms such as muscle spasm, rigidity, pain, vomiting, hypertension, and tachycardia. Although Latrodectus mactans (L. mactans) is the most well-known species to latrodectism, it has not been reported in Turkey. We report a case caused by tredecimguttatus tredecimguttatus) known be Turkey for first time literature.
Case: A 35-year-old male patient presented complaints of pain lower extremities excessive sweating due bite. Discomfort, agitation, sweaty appearance, tachycardia, hypertensive attack were observed patient. Because black antivenom available because continuation despite treatment 12 hours emergency department, was transferred intensive care unit, where he given IV sedoanalgesia. Nicardipine infusion administered treat hypertension attack. The patient’s improved on fifth day. dead that brought identified an expert biologist L. tredecimguttatus.
Conclusion: It should considered latrodectism bite may resistant emergent hospitalization required.

Black widow spider bite.

These two cases illustrate many classical features of latrodectism. A subclinical bite followed by extensive systemic signs and symptoms in a recognizable pattern is strongly suggestive of the diagnosis. Pain and muscle spasms are refractory to standard therapy but are relieved by intravenous calcium. Finally, there should be complete resolution of the symptoms after only one vial of antivenin ...

The treatment of black widow spider envenomation with antivenin latrodectus mactans: a case series.

Black widow spiders (Latrodectus mactans) are found throughout the US. Though bites are relatively uncommon, they pose a significant health problem with over 2500 reported to American poison control centers annually. Black widow spider bites cause a characteristic envenomation syndrome consisting of severe pain, muscle cramping, abdominal pain, and back pain. The significant pain associated wit...

Material properties of cobweb silk from the black widow spider Latrodectus hesperus.

We present the material analysis of scaffolding silk from the cobweb of the black widow spider Latrodectus hesperus. 30 strands were tested from the webs of nine spiders. Strands were stretched at 0.211 mm/s as force and extension were recorded. Cross-sectional area was measured under 1000 x oil-immersion light microscopy. The stress strain curve shows that cobweb silk is a distinct material fr...

Effect of the venom of the black widow spider, Latrodectus mactans tredecimguttatus, on evoked action potentials in the isolated nerve cord of Periplaneta americana.

INTRODUCTION NERI et al. (1965) found that Latrodectus tredecimguttatus venom at a minimal concentration of 400 hg of protein per ml upon application first enhanced and then suppressed the endogenous (spontaneous) activity recorded on one cereal nerve in the isolated nerve cord ofPeriplaneta americana. They also observed that the endogenous activity could be restored by immersing the cord in a ...

Molecular and mechanical properties of major ampullate silk of the black widow spider, Latrodectus hesperus.

Molecular and material properties of major ampullate silk were studied for the cobweb-building black widow spider Latrodectus hesperus. Material properties were measured by stretching the silk to breaking. The strength was 1.0 +/- 0.2 GPa, and the extensibility was 34 +/- 8%. The secondary structure of the major ampullate silk protein was studied using carbon-13 NMR spectroscopy. Alanine underg...
